JAXA's contribution for realizing a safe and secure hydrogen society through hydrogen handling technology

Responding to Climate Change Issues

There is an international need to expand hydrogen utilization to respond global climate change issues. To achieve this, the cost of supplying liquid hydrogen must be reduced to the same level as that of LNG. By establishing a large-scale supply chain of liquid hydrogen connecting overseas and Japan, and using large quantities in power generation, the cost of hydrogen supply is expected to be dramatically reduced due to the effect of scale. For the safe and secure use of liquid hydrogen on such a large scale, it is necessary to develop appropriate technical standards and research and development of safety technologies, in addition to the development of various equipment to construct liquid hydrogen infrastructure.

Contribution to a safe and secure hydrogen society through various development tests in the liquid hydrogen facilities

JAXA has developed test facilities utilizing the knowledge and safety technologies for handling hydrogen that it has cultivated over the years and conducts tests necessary for the development of equipment required for the construction of a liquid hydrogen supply chain, while also contributing to the development of human resources who will lead the hydrogen society of the future.

  • We contribute to the realization of a carbon-free energy society through hydrogen use.
  • We contribute to the early realization of a hydrogen society by developing a large-scale liquid hydrogen test facility.
  • We contribute to responding against climate change issues by expanding hydrogen utilization.
